Is there a way of switching off the borders of images inserted into a drawing?

Hello,
in current version there are no options to switch off image border. But you can set linetype, lineweight and color for image border in Inspector - so if you create special linetype with very small dash and big gap - you will see only small dot in left bottom corner.
