Slicing "complex" solids

David_Parker's Photo David_Parker 05 Jul 2022

Hello, Sorry to post so many questions but the manuals and help guides aren't easy to figure out.

More specificall I want to break up my sweep. Perhaps I have modelled this wrong from the get go - if I have what method should I have used?

I want to slice my stringers so they are individual elements for my shop drawings.

I have tried all sorts of ways to do this but never get what i am after.

Thought the Planar cut would have done the trick but no.

Frustrating that I could have done this so quickly in Revit but I am trying to learn this software!

Using the sweep tool for structural steel was incorrect.

This method was using 3D Tools > Direct.
  • Standard Steel members should be modelled with the Extrusion Tool.
  • Create work planes where you want to slice the steel using Utility > Work Plane.
  • With the Slice Tool and Planar Object Option slice the steel extrusions

Simple once you know how but things like this cause beginners who don't have support major headaches.

Hope it helps others!
