Anyone know why the cursor crosshairs always disappear when I select "distance between points" tool??

Don't know ! maybe... see in options - Graphic settings > OpenGl or DirectX

what version of nanoCAD do you use? Does the problem appear on every drawing file? Do you work in XY plane?
