Saving 3d part as a 3d not 2d format

Hello to all in this Forum
I am new to nanoCad Mechanica but I am an Inventor user at work. In Inventor I can import a 3d step file and save it or convert it to an ipt file format. When I import a part in step format into my Mechanica, I notice it is in a .dwg 2d format. How can I import as a 3d and save my drawing as a 3d file format? or does nanoCad saves all drawings as .dwg? BTW in the Autodesk "AutoCad" ecosystem, drawings in 2d are saved as .dxf or .dwg so it is confusing to me and reason for asking the saved file format.
Thank You for Reading
