I use Nano free on my pc windows, but I've got an iMac too.
When I try to import in Illustrator or Designer in Mac OS the file dwg or dxf of Nanocad, it doesn't open.
But ordinary Illustrator and Disegner Mac OS open dwg and dxf files.

I don't know which "Designer" application you are meaning, but Adobe Illustrator will not open AutoCAD files saved in a version later than AutoCAD 2007.
