How to use Stretch?

Henri's Photo Henri 04 Nov 2019

Hi,

I can't find out how to stretch an object.

I have an airfoil drawn as polyline + a straight centerline which I need to stretch to various sizes with different. For this I can't use Scale, I need to stretch in one direction.

There's a toolbar-button "Moves or stretches objects". The Move function of this button is clear and easy. But how to make it stretch my object???

Can someone please post a step-by-step?

Thank you!

Hi.
Can you attach a drawing with 1st object and the one you are trying to get after stretch?

Thank you for your help! It's the last thing I need to know for what I want to use NanoCAD for.

Attached a dwg file with the airfoil polyline that I need to transform to different lenghts and heights, to get all the different ribs for a wing.
The airfoils have to be stretched/shrinked in X direction and then in Y direction differently/separately. I can't use Scale function.

I added a red rectangle around the airfoil as a 'size box'.
As example I added two other 'size boxes' to which I need to transform the airfoil polyline.

Meanwhile I managed to stretch a simple rectangle, but I could not always repeat it and it was unclear to me how to stretch to exact sizes.

(This is for hobby by the way, not professional.)

Aha, I see. The problem is that your wing is multipoint polyline. Stretch moves some points, leaving others at their place. With such object you won't get the result.
You can make it like that:
  • Create a block from the polyline.
  • Make sure "Same scales" property of the block is set to No.
  • Change X or Y Scale property to one you need (it's a multiplier to the original length/height) - and the wing will change it's size respectively.

Yes, I managed to repeat your Block scale example! :) Thank you!

One last question ... is it possible to un-block the copied wing-ribs? ... convert them back to polyline? Because I need to do more work to them.

Of course it is! Use Explode command.
