Insert image and scaling in order to measure?

I am very casual user of the basic functions of NanoCad 5. But I have an application where I want to take a photograph and determine dimensions from it. I am not sure whether this is possible inside NanoCad.
My approach would be to take a photo and import it into NanoCad.
Now I would draw lines using the photograph as template.
From a known size of one object withing the photo I like to scale my traced line.
Now I should be able to measure all dimensions at will.
Keep in mind I am a beginner with the program.
Is this possible within NanoCad? If yes could someone please describe the steps I have to take for this?
Thanks
Volkhard
