Is nanocad (free op) 5 being updated or is...

Trying out nanocad free as just starting out commercially once I have some more money would look to plus or pro versions of the software. I noticed the free version is version 5 and plus or pro is 8. So is the free version just an old version not updated? The reason I ask tried to open a 2018 day from an architect (prob using autocad) and it won't open in nanocad? There are a few other things like right click customisation is it only innpro and plus versions? Cheers in advance to all replies.

Hello MarŅ,
the latest free version is 5, yes, it is old (2013 released).
Unfortunately, now it is not possible to open dwg2018 in any version, Plus 8.5 and Pro 8.0 cannot do this. But you can use any free converter and change format to dwg2013.
Right click customization is available in nanoCAD Plus, Pro. You can try these versions free during one month.

Brilliant info Hellen. Just curious on what you have said Plus 8.5 and Pro 8.0, isn't pro the upgrade from plus? Shouldn't they both be 8.5? Is 9 on the horizon and will the capacity to open and save in 2018 dwg format be in said later release? I know autocad have introduced 2018 dwg format with 2018 version onwards. Last question is nanocad graphics card dependent, Autodesk is terrible for this as my older hardware (firegl or quadro) not driver compatible etc so doesn't work very well. Cheers in advance.

we upgraded only Plus.
Yes, the following release (Spring-Summer 2018, I think) will open dwg2018 format.
You can select OpenGL or DirectX with different settings (in Options dialog).

Thank you again, but I don't think you understood what I meant. Autocad release a hardware compatibility list with each release (ie the graphics card or chip), unfortunately what has always disgusted me is that the hardware acceleration (graphics) drivers for any said graphics card only last for 2 issues max (ie card might be on the list for 2016 and 2017 versions and disappear in 2018). Hence my question is nanocad like this (a compatible hardware list) or is it less dependent on graphics, ie is there a difference in performance between a GeForce (consumer/games) and Quadro card of same spec? My apologies for being long winded.

nanoCAD less depends on graphic and more depends on software drivers on graphic card. It works with OpenGL and DirectX drivers.

Ok, I don't like begging, but please give us a small candy, something like nanocad free 6!
Greetings.
