Hi Everybody,

I've just install NanoCAD, and I'm very happy!
Exceptional free CAD software.

I have only two problems:

1) When I save an existing dxf file (Autocad R14 - 2004) it is saved as default in Autocad 2010 dxf format.
This file, created by NanoCad, can not open again with NanoCad. The software crash, and don't let me to open this file. I'm working with two different computer HP (one workstation and one normal PC) with Windows 7, and I have this problem in both.
This file saved by NanoCad in Autocad 2010 dxf format can be opened by other software!
If I save the same drawing with 2004-2000-R14-R13-R11 can be opened again.
How can I set the default saving as dxf 2004?

2) I work with NanoCad to modify dxf generated by a 3D cad (Pro-Engineer) and put it in another software for a Punch machine. This software (MasterNest) can open all type of dxf files, included all dxf file made by NanoCad (also 2010!!)
But with all dxf made by nanoCad I can't see the preview image. Can be a reason for that?

Thanks

Mirco

Hi Mirco,

can you send me ( or to support@nanocad.com ) sample of your DXF file? When I opened DXF 2000 and press Save - saved file is also DXF AutoCAD 2000, not 2010. May be DXF version was incorrectly defined in original file, so nanoCAD use default one?

Save formats are defined in nCad.ini file

[\DefProf\IO\SaveProjects]
@=sProject Files
DialogCaption=sDocument File
Format1=sdwg
Format2=sdwg2007
Format3=sdwg2004
Format4=sdwg2000
Format5=sdwgR14
Format6=sdwgR13
Format7=sdwgR11
Format8=sdwt
Format9=sdxf
Format10=sdxf2007
Format11=sdxf2004
Format12=sdxf2000
Format13=sdxfR14
Format14=sdxfR13
Format15=sdxfR11

so you can try to remove 2010 and 2007 DXF.

2. DXF is text format, it doesn't contains preview inside/ Does MasterNest shows preview for DXFs created by another applications?

Best regards,
Seva.

Ok... I've done...

s160-04-62_original.dxf is the original dxf created from Pro-Engineer

s160-04-62_good_R04.dxf is the drawing modified with NanoCad and save in Autocad 2004 format. I can open this file wih Nano Cad

s160-04-62_fault_R10.dxf more or less same drawing as s160-04-62_good_R04.dxf but saved with Autocad 2010 format. I can't open this file with Nano Cad

s160-04-62_fault_R04.dxf more or less same drawing as s160-04-62_good_R04.dxf saved with Autocad 2004 format. I can't open this file with Nano Cad

I don't know why it happen. Please note that from the "original" I just make little modification:
1) keep only one layer
2) make some round corner
3) make some champfer corner

Nothing else...

Hi Again!!!

Unluckily no answer from you.. but today I've discover another information:

When I can't open my dxf files directly from Window (no matter if it is 2010-2004-R14 or other version) I can open it from NanoCad.
I mean: if I try to open this file with double click from Windows, NanoCad crash (can't open)
if I open the same file, starting first NanoCad, and opening by File-->Open (Ctrl+O) it open normally.

Is there something wrong??
Installing NanoCad, only dwg extensions can be subjected to NanoCad software.
For Dxf file, I set Windows to open it with NanoCad as predeterminated software.

Please let me know If you have any suggestion.

Thanks

For some reason I cannot set nanoCAD to be the default program to open dxf files. I am working on some 3rd party sites with registry tips currently. If I figure it out, I will post it here.

edit

Following tips around, I went to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.dxf and gave to the (default) string inside the value nanoCAD x64.Drawing.8.0 (which I had copied from the .dwg key

Then in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
under both .dxf and .dwg there are
OpenWithList and OpenWithProgID keys
Inside OpenwithList there are strings:
(default) - no value
a - program 1
b - program 2
c - nCAD.exe
etc...
MRUlist - acb (order of available preferances above)
I deleted all strings except (default), nCAD line and MRUlist
and I edited MRUlist to contain only "c" in my case (the line with nanoCAD

in the OpenWithProgID there are strings:
(default) - no value
nanoCAD x64.Drawing.8.0 - (zero lenght binary value)
program 1 - (zero lenght binary value)
program 2 - (zero lenght binary value)
etc
I deleted other program lines and left (default) and nanoCAD lines

After that eveyrthing worked for me. Both double-clik and right-clik/open with, could use nanoCAD for dxf files.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!
Editing registry can harm your system if you make any mistakes. It is strongly suggested that you back up your registry, before applying any changes.
With the above change, your system in general should be intact, but consider either to backup your registry or make notes of what you change, to revert it manually to the previous functional condition.

Hello
I have strange (to me) issue regarding opening some dxf files, created from non-autocad programms. They can be opened normally with NanoCAD 8, but not with 10 version. Currently I have both versions installed on my PC, because the upgrade didn't kick out the earlier version, and since they don't seem to interfere, I didn't bother to uninstall the v.8.
My current workaround is to open them with v.8, save them as dwg and then work on v.10. Has anyone experienced similar issue?

Not a biggie, but in the case of future clean format, for example, I should be installing both versions back to my PC.

Hi, I've the same problem. I'm not able to open .dxf files created with Draftsight.
I've run some tests and I've discovered that Nanocad can open only format in version R2010ASCII dxf Format and R2013ASCII dxf format.
Formats R12 and R14 create Crashes or doesn't shows the schematics.

Please provide a solution to manage the R12 and R14 dxf formats with Nanocad.
For your reference below you can find my investigation results.

[color=#151515][font=Consolas][size=1]Hi, I've the same problem.
Hi,
Try to open your files with nanoCAD Plus: https://nanocad.com/products/plus/
Note that nanoCAD 5 cannot open dxf files by double click or context menu "Open with - nanoCAD 5". Start nanoCAD and use Open menu.

"Cannot find: seans.ttf" is not an error. This message just means that font is not installed on your PC.
