I am coming from Draftsight so I was familiar with that product. I use this for editing 2D floor plans made by architectural companies who work on our buildings. I do some light editing on the files (remove and label things etc) so they can be saved as PDF for other staff to view.

For the life of me I cannot get this thing to save. I open a .dwg draw a line or something and hit save and nothing happens. The star next to the file name stays and does not change. The file does not save.

Hello.
As it seems to me, you don't finish the running command - Line asks for a second point, but you don't specify it. While the command is still running, you are trying to run another command - save. Therefore you should finish Line command (hit Enter or Escape) and them save the file.
