Just realised that I need to press ESC to cancel Pan and then click Zoom to use it.

Hope I can cancel Pan by clcik Zoom button. That's a little faster.

they are trasparent commands, so say you start a line on the left side of your drawaing but want to connect to a small area on the right, you start the line command pick you start point and then use zoom and zoom to the area you want and the line command carries on.

So if you had a cancel on the toolbar for the zoom or pan, you would not be able to use the zoom and pan in this manner.
